Cruise of the living dead!

I love zombie movies, and I am not ashamed to admit it.  I will watch anything that has zombies in it.  I cannot get enough zombie movies.  One of my favorite one's is "Shaun of the Dead."  I love the slow moving, not all there zombies.  I recently watched the 2008 version of Day of the Dead and a film titled Flight of the Living Dead.  Neither of these films were very good.  In fact, it has been a while since we have had a good zombie movie.

I have a great idea for a zombie movie.....Cruise of the Living Dead.  The basic plot would feature a cruise ship during a zombie outbreak.  It would start out with a passenger dying from normal causes then becoming a zombie.  The passengers would then fight of the zombies.  The second half of the film would feature the cruise ship and passengers looking for a place to land as the rest of the world appears to be infested with blood thirsty zombies!!!!  This film would be unique in that the passengers would rid the ship of zombies.  In most zombie movies, the situation always gets worse and not better.  In this film, there would be mild success with ridding the ship of zombies but then further discord when they discover the world is infested with zombies.  Sounds like a great movie huh?  If any producers are interested, send me a comment and we can talk...

10 essential free apps that every PC should have...

Most PC's now adays don't come with much software pre-installed.  You get the operating system and a trial version of an antivirus program.  To get all the additional software that you need, you could spend more than you did for the PC itself.  This is crazy.  Luckily for us, there are many free programs out there as alternatives to the pricey programs that you can find at the big box stores.  Here are a few programs that I recommend and feel are essential for every pc:

1.  AVG free(www.free.avg.com).  Once the 60 day trial of the pre-installed antivirus program expires you have to make a decision.  You need to have anit-virus on your machine.  Rather than paying $50 per year for Norton or McAfee, try AVG free.  AVG makes a free antivirus and a paid version of the sofware.  I have been using the free version for some time now.  It is a really soid program.  It does not use a lot of system resources and does a great job.

2.  Spyboy Search and Destroy(www.safer-networking.org).   This is a great anti-spyware program.  It runs in the background providing constant protection.   Run it once a week to keep your machine spy-ware free.

3.  Ncleaner(www.nkprods.com/ncleaner).  Ncleaner is a very useful program that does a lot for your machine.   It allows you to manage the startup programs, tweak your system and privacy settings, find junk, clean your system and registry, and shred the free space on your hard drive.  This program is great for finding junk files and freeing up space on your hard drive.  It also finds invalid entries on your registry and corrects them.  Running this program often will help speed up your system.

4.  Chrome(www.google.com/chrome)  Chrome is google's web browser.  To me, chrome is much faster than internet explorer or firefox.  It is new so some websites do not render correctly.  I have also noticed that when you try to subsribe to RSS feeds it sometimes acts up.  Despite the bugs, I still find this to be the best browser out there.

5.  Defraggler(www.defraggler.com)  Defragmenting your hard drive is essential.  Fragmented files really slow down your pc.  The defragmenting program that comes standard with windows is very slow.  It defragments the entire hard drive.  Defraggler scans the hard drive and only defragments the fragmented files.  If you run this often, at least once a week, it should not take more than 20 minutes and will make a huge difference when it comes performance.

6.  Core Temp(www.alcpu.com/coretemp)  This is a useful program to check the temperatures of the processor(s).  This is especially useful to those of you who have laptops.  If your pc appears to be running hot you need to open up your machine and clean out the dust.  If you have a laptop, you need to clean the dust out of the heat sink.

7.  Open Office(openoffice.org)  If your machine did not come with microsoft office, and most don't, then you need this software suite.  Included is a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and database software.

8.  Gimp(www.gimp.org).  If you do not want to shell $1000 for photoshop, the try Gimp.  Gimp is a free photo-editing software that has many of the same features as photoshop.

9.  Eraser(www.heidi.ie/eraser).  Eraser will permanently erase files from your pc.  Simply emptying the recycling bin does not do it.  Files deleted in this manner can be recovered using file recovery software.  Eraser re-writes data multiple times to permanently erase your files.

10.  Windows Defender(search in google)  Defender is included with Vista but is a free download for Xp.  This is another great anti-spyware program.

Running these programs will help keep your machine operating at peak performance.  If you have any comments or suggestons, please let me know!

Earth Day 2009, does anyone care?

Today is Earth day.  A day to inspire awareness and appreciation for Earth's environment.  My question is, does anyone care anymore?  I for one certainly do and hope that others do as well.  Earth day is important and necessary.  We need increase everyone's awareness of the problems facing our environment.  To me, it seems like environmental awareness has increased tremendously since Earth day one year ago.  However, we need to do more.  We need to fund research for alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, fusion.  We need to come up with creative solutions to lower our carbon footprint and remove some of the carbon that we have previously put in the environment.  If we do not act fast, there will be no need for an Earth day.  There will be no environment to appreciate.  Earth day needs to be everyday!  We all need to think about the environment on  daily basis.....

Was Kara Thrace a Cylon Spy?

I have been digesting the final epsidoes of Battlestar Galactica and have a theory regarding what Kara Thrace atually was.  I believe that she was a Cylon spy.  Her purpose was to take the "song" back to BSG and hope that someone there could figure it out.  I believe the cylons discovered the song at some point but did not know what to do with it.  I believe that when she was in the hospital on new caprica the cylons took some of her eggs and scanned her brain.  They then cloned her and and implanted her own known memories.  They also inserted this song along with the background regarding the sun.  They also implanted a tracking device into her body.  At some point Caval and the other cylons discovered earth and found her body.  They cloned her, created a new viper and sent her back.  At the end of the series when she is talking to Lee I believe she ran away when he turned his head.  She jumped into a raptor and either flew it into the sun or just fled the galaxy.  She was afraid that if any skin jobs remained, they would track her to new earth.....What do you all think of my theory?  I lved BSG and cannot stop thinking about the finale.

Could Aliens Be Sending Us Laser Signals?

Another communication strategy that aliens might use instead of radio signals is to send brief and intense bursts of laser light across the galaxy, sort of like a signal lamp between two ships. Some space telescopes would be ideally suited to pluck out such a signal from the sky background.
